Modern Issues Research Paper

Objective:

            The objective of this paper is to give you an in-depth understanding of one of the major public policy issues facing our community today. You will be given the opportunity to select an issue from either the ones that are covered in class or one of your own choosing, based upon the following six categories; Health Issues, International Disputes, Environment, Human Rights, Ethnic and Cultural Conflict, and Globalization. You will then research this issue to discover its historical roots, its present consequences, and what is being done to solve the problem. This project will require a great deal of research and focus and must meet the following criteria:

 

Content Checklist:

  • Identify the issue and explain its global significance.

  • Explain how this issue may directly or indirectly affect us.

  • Describe and analyze the historical roots of the issue in detail.

  • Describe and analyze the actions that have been taken to resolve this issue and their effectiveness.

 

Structure Checklist:

  • It must be at least 6 full typed pages in length, double spaced, excluding works cited, graphics, charts, etc.
  • Paper formatting must follow proper Chicago Style formatting as described by Owl Perdue.
  • It must contain a minimum of three sources in a bibliography.
  • Statistics, quotes, original ideas, and references must be cited using footnotes.
  • The font must be Times New Roman size 12.

 

NOTE: Final Drafts will not be scored if the structure requirements are not met.

NOTE: Space taken up by charts or graphics will not count toward the length requirement.
